How We Keep Lottery Drawings Secure

Integrity is paramount at the New York Lottery. We always adhere to policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards across games and draws. Here is an inside look at our extensive preparation for Lottery draws.

Draw Security

  • Procedures exist for the secure storage, movement, and handling of draw machines and ball sets.
  • Draw equipment and ball sets are securely stored when not in use.
  • All tests and draws are performed under video surveillance/recording with multiple cameras.
  • Ball sets comply with the measurement and weight tolerances compatible with draw machines.
  • Draw machines are inspected and maintained to the machine’s specified standards.
  • Documentation

Each draw has associated physical and digital records to preserve the draw’s integrity, to maintain a record for historical and record-keeping purposes, and to ensure that the public has access to past draw information.

    Types of documentation we keep:

  • Machine and ball set records
  • All official daily draw paperwork
  • Policies and Procedures applicable to draws
  • If you’re interested, you may watch live Lottery drawings at our Schenectady, NY headquarters. Please contact the Lottery Integrity & Investigations Unit or call 518-388-3416.
